Manchester United won today against Brighton in the FA Cup and the Red Devils and Jose Mourinho qualified to the quarter-final, but the performance is a shame for a team such Manchester United where Brighton dominated the game and the attack where they had 14 shots, 4 on target, and Manchester United had only 7 shots, and one on target and Manchester United were afraid of an equalizer until Matic’s goal on the 85th minute.
The players seem affected until now with the elimination from the Champions League against Sevilla. The team had one of the worst matches where Brighton were the dangerous side who even deserved to score. If Manchester United play against Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspurs in the next round with such performance, it will be a humiliation.
Here are our player ratings and the man of the match for today’s match
Romero Made a good save in the 57th minute, a good match. 7/10
Smalling: Missed a dangerous chance in the 30th minute, an average defensive match as well. 6/10
Bailly: A poor match today, not the Eric Bailly of Liverpool. 6/10
Valencia: Had some sloppy moments. 5/10
Shaw: Was okay, but Jose Mourinho doesn’t seem to trust him, maybe it’s better to leave Manchester United to save his career. 5/10
Matic: The best midfielder for Manchester United, was the box to box midfielder to connected the defense and the attack. Made one assist and scored a goal. 8/10
McTominay: An average match. Didn’t help a lot in the attack. 6/10
Lingard: A poor match, didn’t do anything, barely even running. 5/10
Mata: Like Lingard, that’s not the normal Mata. We didn’t see his talent and magic today. But was trying. 6/10
Martial: Didn’t do anything today, we barely saw him. 5/10
Lukaku: Maybe one of the very few players working for the team recently after being heavily criticised. Scored one important goal. 7/10
Young: A very average match, not his best form. However, his accurate pass led to the second goal. 5/10
Rashford: Didn’t have a lot of time to do anything with such defensive plan. 5/10
Man of the match: Nemanja Matic deserves the man of the match award, one assist, one goal, and an amazing performance in the midfield.
Jose Mourinho (Manager): Not sure what to say, praise him for the result, or criticize him for the performance. A good result, but a bad performance where the team was over defending against a team that is fighting relegation, and Brighton’s offensive stats were better than Manchester United’s.
Manchester United have world class attacking players such as Lukaku, Pogba, and Sanchez, but Jose Mourinho wants them to defend. Pogba and Sanchez didn’t play today at all as well, and Jose Mourinho’s issues with the players may happen again. 5/10
