A very disappointing match for Manchester United after getting knocked out of the Champions League group of 16 against FC Sevilla where they dominated the game in one of Manchester United’s worst matches and performances after failing to score or at least threat Sevilla during the first 80 minutes, until Manchester United conceded two goals that ended the Red Devil’s dream of qualification for the quarter-final.
Jose Mourinho wasted the first half of the wrong and useless tactics where he was able to attack instead of defending and waiting for a counterattack in an over the defensive match.
Here are our player ratings and man of the match for today’s match
De Gea: Nothing much to do as much as the first leg, but couldn’t stop the two goals. 6/10
Smalling: Some sloppy moments such as on the 48th minute, but made a couple of good interceptions and clearances. Was able to do better in Sevilla’s first goal. 5/10
Bailly: Manchester United’s best player today, saved Manchester United from several dangerous attempts such as the one on one attempt on the 48th minute. Can’t be blamed for the goal. 7/10
Valencia: Not his best match. 5/10
Young: Seemed tired as well, like Valencia. 6/10
Matic: Had a good first half, but in the second half he didn’t do much. 6/10
Lingard: Had some good attempts and made a dangerous pass to Lukaku. 5/10
Fellaini: Not sure what was his position, a striker, midfielder, defender, or what? 4/10
Sanchez: Other than the pass to Fellaini on the 38th minute, we barely saw him. 4/10
Rashford: Was playing out of the location on the right, sometimes seemed he can do something, but at the end, he couldn’t. Made an assist. 6/10
Lukaku: Tried, but failed. Wasn’t effective and missed plenty of chances but scored a goal at the end. 6/10
Pogba: We didn’t see anything from him. 5/10
Mata: As well, nothing to do. 5/10
Martial: The whole team seemed dead today, we barely noticed that Martial played for the last 15 minutes. 5/10
Man of the match: None of Manchester United’s players for sure, but Eric Bailly was Manchester United’s best player.
Jose Mourinho (Manager): That’s not how Manchester United can win trophies. The squad is full of offensive players such as Pogba, Sanchez, Lukaku, Martial, Mata, Rashford, and others, and Mourinho is defending. If Mourinho wants to win real trophies against European and Premier League giants, he has to change some tactics. The team played in the last 10 minutes better than the whole match, if Manchester United played like that, the qualification would have been in the pocket already. He takes full blame for today’s result. 1/10
