In a pre match press conference in USA before meeting Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho talked about David De Gea and his links to Real Madrid this summer.
Mourinho said: ” I opened the door for him to leave to Real Madrid after closing the door for him for long. It’s not good to force players to stay if they want to leave. Then they, Real Madrid, closed the door for him. I don’t think he feels good about that.”
Mourinho continued: “I can guarantee for you that he won’t leave this season. It’s hard, he is a honest guy. Many clubs contacted him and I will always stand by any players who feels he wants to leave. We totally accepted the idea but it wasn’t our choice. He is happy and fully focused. He will stay with us 100%.”
Ander Herrera, who was in the press conference as well said: “It’s a big mistake to lose players like De Gea. He is the kind of a keeper that gives you points. He is the best keeper in the world for me and my close friend. I would love to play with him at Man United for long.”
Knowing that De Gea joined Man United in the summer of 2011 and has developed into one of the world’s best goalkeepers. De Gea played over 250 matches with Manchester United and won several trophies like Premier League title, the FA Cup, and UEFA Europa League.
