Three deserved points for Manchester United in a game that wasn’t the ideal game for both sides. Man United possessed all the time. It was a calm game for most of Man United players.
It was quite a defensive game taking into consideration playing three days ago, and having to play in the Champions League after 4 days a crucial game in Russia. Playing subbing Mata and Miki for Herrera and Smalling proves how Mourinho just wanted the three points.
Our players ratings are as the following:
De Gea: Calm game. Couple of shots but was ready like usual. 7/10
Young: Good contribution in the attack. Good defensive game as well. 7/10
Jones: Proving he is a solid defender. However, had a reckless mistake in the second half that was going to give a penalty for the Saints. 6/10
Bailly: Nothing much to do. 7/10
Valencia: Calm game. But booked. 6/10
Matic: Wasn’t so obvious in the game. 6/10
Fellaini: One of the most underrated players 7/10
Mata: isn’t the magical Mata. 6/10
Mkhitaryan: Had couple of chances but not his best form. 6/10
Lukaku: Broke two records on the club and league level. And scored the winning goal. Not the best form as well after resting since Everton’s game. 5/10
Rashford: He didn’t seem so dangerous. Maybe tired of consecutive game and his injury against Burton. 5/10
Subs:
Blind: N/A
Smalling: N/A
Herrera: Not much to do. One dangerous chance to make it 2-0 but missed. 5/10
Man of the match: Most of the players were average. Lukaku gave the three winning points for Man United, but wasn’t the best on the pitch.
Jose Mourinho (Manager): He was clearly thinking about the Champions League match and wants three points only. However, he was sent off which will affect the team in the next matches. 5/10
