Awful first half of Manchester United where Brighton had several chances to score due to the defensive issues Manchester United is having, and breaking through the defense was an easy task for Brighton players.
The first half ended with Manchester United having one shot on target, while Brighton have two shots on target. In the other half, Manchester United was able to win three valuable points by an own goal, but the performance didn’t really improve to suit a club that is fighting for the Premier League title.
Our players’ ratings are as the following:
De Gea: He saved several chances for Brighton due to Man United’s defensive mistakes. 7/10
Smalling: Not his best match. He was easily letting Brighton’s players in the 18-yard area. 6/10
Lindelof: He was so shaky and marking players in a wrong way and committing several fouls. At the 5th minute, he was going to let Brighton’s striker score by marking him unproperly. 5/10
Young: Seemed a bit nervous sometimes. But was helping in the offense and scored a goal after it deflected by Brighton’s defender. 6/10
Valencia: Average match. But was always trying to go forward. 6/10
Matic: Played as a defender as well today due to Man United poor defense today. 7/10
Pogba: One of the best players on the pitch. Always dangerous and creative and trying to score. 8/10
Mata: Saved Man United from a goal as well. He was helping going forwarding and defending as well. 7/10
Rashford: Tried to score, and like Mata, he was playing as a defender sometimes. 6/10
Martial: Good match and dangerous for Brighton’s defense, as usual, and force them to foul him in order to stop him. Good to see him playing more frequently. 7/10
Lukaku: He should be dropped ASAP. He missed a dangerous chance to score in the 3rd minute and making us feel Man United is playing with 10 men sometimes. 4/10
Mkhitaryan: Showed some improvements and was pushing forward. 6/10
Zlatan: Lukaku should be really dropped for Ibra when he’s 100% fit to play 90 minutes. In few minutes he had more chances that Lukaku in several matches maybe. 7/10
Fellaini: kept the midfield steady. 5/10
Man of the match: Paul Pogba was the best player on the pitch. He didn’t really impress but was the most dangerous one and the creative player.
Jose Mourinho (Manager): Jose Mourinho’s team performance dropped significantly since the beginning of the season. Mourinho was lucky to win today with such performance and lucky that Brighton’s finish was poor, otherwise Manchester United would have lost by three or four goals.
Mourinho has some work to do in January to keep the title hopes alive. 5/10
