Alvaro Morata, Chelsea’s striker and Real Madrid’s former player, has revealed that he was in serious discussions with Man United to join them, but he preferred to join Chelsea for three reasons.
In an interview with Gazetta dello Sport, Morata said that he was close to sign for Man United for 70m GBP, but when Chelsea offered to sign him, he directly agreed to go to the Stamford Bridge. However, Morata listed three reasons why he chose Chelsea over Man United.
Morata said that the first reason is Conte who was one of the main reasons why he preferred Chelsea. Morata said: “I’m in debt with Conte. He had taken me for Juventus and before he leaves for Italy. When I knew he wanted me, I didn’t think twice before accepting”
On the other hand, Morata said that the second reason is the Spanish environment in Chelsea, which was encouraging for him. Morata said:” Having players such as Cesar Azplicueta, Marcos Alonso, Cesc Fabregas and Pedro Rodriguez makes things easier when moving to a new club.”
Finally, Morata said that his wife Alice Campello, preffers to live in London over Manchester.
